Detroit Chic Rating: ** 1/2 out of ***** — My bottom line — go see Paranormal Activity 2 with some friends. It’s dumb fun, but it’s still fun. And it may be a whole lot less scary than the first movie — but perhaps that’s a good thing as you’ll probably actually be able to sleep after seeing it, this time around.

Seeing Stars is the kind of wonderful experience you hope for every time you see a live show. This is a rock band that seems truly committed to their craft (pun partially intended as they are on the label Arts&Crafts, hardy har har!). The show cemented in my mind their status as one of the most powerful and creative forces in independent rock today. If you haven’t heard Stars, you should listen to them. And if you haven’t seen them, you SHOULD, it is well worth the $17 admission fee (or whatever it was after Ticketmaster’s cut).

You don’t have to travel to Manhattan to catch a whiff of some delicious baking. Whether you’re in the mood for a Greektown Olive Loaf or a Chocolate Brioche, your trip to Detroit’s Avalon Bakery comes with a virtual guarantee you’ll find something tasty.
