Celebrity JeopardySometimes the commercial media is snoozing on a potential gold mine.  We don’t really understand why — but then again we don’t run a major media company. [Or do we? -- Jason]

JasonTake these three examples of things that in our opinion should most definitely get released on DVD:

1. Saturday Night Live: Celebrity Jeopardy
A classic skit, I cannot count the times my friends and I watched these videos back in high school.  This is a gold mine!  And NBC/Lorne Michaels are sitting idly by leaving it unexploited.

Seriously, this could be a top selling DVD.  Instead a series of less compelling season and actor packages are compiled, that occasionally have one of these skits on them…  Poor form.

2. Dateline NBC: To Catch a Predator

Okay, so maybe Chris Hansen was a little rough on Detroit and is now on our sh1tl1st in his latest special, but it’s hard not to love this hilarious and controversial series.  Stupid pedophiles?  Check.  News reporter waiting inside after decoy departs?  Check.  Running peds slammed to the ground by cops?  Check.

For anyone who ever wanted to see a bunch of internet scumbags get their comeuppance, this is a definitive title.

Unfortunately there is no apparent plans to release this wildly popular reoccurring special on DVD.  Perhaps there’s some legal issues here holding that back.  Whether it’s that or pure laziness, though, it’s hard not to be disappointed.

3. Spiderman: The Animated Series
The 1990s were a golden time to be a kid who loved comics and animation.  Even as the Age of Apocalypse series was conquering the comic stands, X-Men and Spiderman : The Animated Series were airing on Fox Kids to rave reviews.

Following the success of the Batman : The Animated Series DVD release, X-Men : The Animated has FINALLY been released.  But Spiderman : The Animated Series, which ran an epic 5 seasons and 65 episodes, is still a no show.

Worse yet, it HAS been released — but only in the UK and Germany (via Clear Vision Ltd.).  Seriously, what gives?

Disney owns at least some of the overseas broadcasting rights and is showing reruns overseas.  Considering they released X-Men : The Animated Series in the U.S., I guess there’s always hope they will see the light!
