Even if you haven't heard the french word "ombre" before, chances are you've seen it.
It's a term, meaning "shading," that every true fashionista must come to know and love.
Ombre first started making appearances last spring, with the release of the fall fashion shows. Alberta Ferretti had wonderful line featuring ombre, as did Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. Hosting a special event for Louis Vuitton, Scarlett Johansson wore a memorable dip-dyed dress back in May. Prada almost always has some sort of ombre cardigan or accessory as well. Neiman Marcus carries adorable pink Prada pumps that we all can't help but drool over the $250 price tag.
Catching up to all the cutting edge fashion, local stores are now featuring the trend. Urban Outfitters currently has some faded tanks on sale and cute accessories such as scarves and sunglasses. Express has a great full skirt featured in blue and magenta. The View on ABC cited ombre being a hot trend to watch out for this spring, as well as In Style's March issue.
Not to be confused with tacky tie-dye, this trend looks best in luxurious fabrics such as silk or patent leather and paired down with a simple ensemble. An easy way to take part in all the ombre is by wearing a faded accessory such as a breezy scarf or faded plastic sunglasses. Although ombre is a luxury statement, it doesn't have to break the bank. The Prada pumps will have to wait for now. I found a great patent bag at Marshalls for $30. It’s a great trend to follow for spring because it's colorful, fun, but sophisticated when it’s done right.
Ombre does come in neutrals, but it is usually bold and always makes a high fashion statement. Find your ombre so all you’ll be hearing is tres, tres chic this spring!
